Freeze-Dried Broccoli Romanesco and Cauliflower Florets

One bulk bag contains the equivalent of 32 ounces of fresh cauliflower.  Net weight of 2.5 ounces of freeze-dried cauliflower.


Each Resealable Mylar bag has an oxygen and moisture absorber to ensure the longest shelf life possible.


Broccoli Romanesco and Cauliflower is a fun visually unique member of the brassica family. With a light green fractal appearance this unique veggie stands out and is a fun addition to any plate. Excellent source of vitamin C & K.



To cook freeze-dried Romanesco and Cauliflower, follow these instructions:


1. Rehydrate the Romanesco and Cauliflower: Place the desired amount of freeze-dried cauliflower in a bowl or pot. Add enough hot water to cover the cauliflower completely. Allow it to soak for about 10 to 15 minutes or until it becomes soft and rehydrated. Stir occasionally to ensure even rehydration.


2. Drain Excess Water: After the Romanesco and Cauliflower has rehydrated, drain off any excess water. You can use a strainer or colander to remove the water thoroughly.


3. Cooking Methods:


- Steaming: Fill a pot with a small amount of water and bring it to a boil. Place a steamer basket or a colander on top of the pot, making sure it doesn't touch the water. Add the rehydrated Romanesco and Cauliflower to the steamer basket or colander, cover with a lid, and steam for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the Romanesco and Cauliflower is tender. Check its doneness by inserting a fork into the thickest part of the Romanesco and Cauliflower.


- Sautéing: Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add a small amount of oil or butter to the pan. Once the oil is hot, add the rehydrated cauliflower and sauté for about 5 to 7 minutes or until it is tender and slightly caramelized. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.


- Roasting: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the rehydrated Romanesco and Cauliflower on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Drizzle with a small amount of oil, sprinkle with salt and any desired herbs or spices, and toss to coat. Roast in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the Romanesco and Cauliflower is tender and slightly browned, stirring once or twice during cooking.


4. Seasoning: Season the cooked Romanesco and Cauliflower with salt, pepper, and any other desired herbs or spices to enhance its flavor. You can customize the seasoning based on your preferences and the dish you are preparing.


5. Serving: Once cooked and seasoned, serve the freeze-dried Romanesco and Cauliflower as a side dish, use it in stir-fries, add it to salads, soups, or vegetable medleys, or incorporate it into your favorite recipes.

Properly sealed packaging helps maintain the quality and shelf life of freeze-dried foods. If the original packaging is not resealable, transfer the contents to airtight containers or resealable bags.


    3. Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Store freeze-dried foods in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight, humidity, and heat sources. Exposure to these elements can compromise the quality, texture, and taste of the food. Aim for a storage temperature between 50°F (10°C) and 70°F (21°C).


    4. Protect from Moisture: Moisture is the enemy of freeze-dried foods as it can lead to spoilage. Keep the packaging or containers away from areas with high humidity or sources of moisture, such as sinks or steamy environments.


    5. Prevent Cross-Contamination: Use clean utensils or washed hands when handling freeze-dried foods to avoid cross-contamination with other ingredients or surfaces. This helps maintain the quality and safety of the freeze-dried products.


    6. Check for Signs of Spoilage: Before consuming or using freeze-dried foods, inspect them for any signs of spoilage. Discard the product if you notice off-odors, unusual colors, or mold growth. If the packaging is damaged or compromised, it's best to err on the side of caution and not consume the product.


    7. Rotate and Use Before Expiration: Freeze-dried foods have a long shelf life, but it's advisable to consume them before the expiration date mentioned on the packaging for the best quality. Practice proper first-in, first-out (FIFO) rotation to ensure older products are used before newer ones.


    By following these handling and storage instructions, you can maintain the quality, flavor, and nutritional value of your freeze-dried foods for an extended period, ensuring a satisfying culinary experience.
